Few counties have shaped the history of evangelical Christianity like Norfolk.

For centuries, this county has been a place where the gospel has been faithfully proclaimed. The
Reformation found fertile ground here through Thomas Bilney, whose rediscovery of justification
by faith helped ignite the English Reformation. His martyrdom at Lollards Pit reminds us that the
gospel has always been worth living—and dying—for.

From the churches of Norwich and villages across Norfolk, generations of faithful ministers
preached God’s Word with clarity and courage, influencing Britain and beyond. The Pilgrim
movement grew from this rich East Anglian heritage, carrying the gospel across the Atlantic. In the
nineteenth century, Robert Govett continued that legacy through his commitment to faithful
biblical exposition.

This is our inheritance.

Yet today, the need is just as urgent.

Norfolk remains one of England’s least-reached counties. Medieval church buildings still dominate
the landscape, yet many people have never heard the good news they were built to proclaim.
Faithful churches are praying for workers while an ageing generation of gospel ministers
approaches retirement. Without a new generation being trained and sent, many communities will
have fewer opportunities to hear the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

The Govett Foundation exists because we believe God still raises up faithful workers through
faithful churches.

By investing in the next generation of gospel leaders, we are continuing Norfolk’s story of gospel
witness. We long to see men and women rooted in Scripture, shaped by local churches and
equipped to proclaim Christ across Norfolk and beyond.

Norfolk’s gospel heritage is remarkable. By God’s grace, its greatest chapters may still lie ahead.
